Advantages:

1. High heat transfer efficiency

The fluid flows in a spiral plate heat exchanger, and the centrifugal force generated thereby increases the turbulence level of the fluid. In addition, the fixed distance columns in the channel also disrupt the boundary layer and generate vortices. Therefore, turbulence can be formed at lower Reynolds numbers, generally between Re=1400 and 1800, with the lowest being at Re=500, depending on the arrangement and number of spacing columns.

2. Two fluid counterflow and low-temperature heat transfer

Two fluids can undergo completely counter current heat exchange in a longer spiral channel. When the inlet and outlet temperatures of two fluids are constant, the logarithmic average temperature difference of counterflow is greater than that of parallel flow, cross flow, or meandering, resulting in a higher heat transfer per unit area. On the other hand, if equal heat transfer per unit area is required, countercurrent heat transfer can be achieved with a smaller logarithmic mean temperature difference. This is very advantageous for the utilization of low-temperature heat sources.

3. Not easy to scale up

The fluid in the spiral plate heat exchanger travels through a single channel, and its allowable flow rate is higher than other types of heat exchangers (usually 2 meters/second for liquids with low viscosity and 20 meters/second for gases), making it less prone to scaling.

4. Compact structure, no need for pipes, easy manufacturing

Spiral plate heat exchangers are made of rolled metal plates, so there are no components such as tube sheets or official boxes that do not play a role in heat exchange. With the same heat transfer area, they are much more compact than tube and pipe heat exchangers, and the heat transfer area per unit volume is about 2-3 times that of tube and pipe heat exchangers. During manufacturing, the amount of mechanical processing is small and the cost is low.
